Use this function to mark trips as private
Privacy Mode
VideMatics includes a Privacy Mode feature that allows drivers to keep personal journeys private, while giving fleet operators full confidence that their vehicles and data remain managed and accountable.
How it works for drivers
Using the Roadie app, drivers can:
Enable Privacy Mode before starting a personal journey, so the trip is recorded privately from the outset.
Mark a completed trip as private after the fact, if they forgot to enable Privacy Mode beforehand.
Privacy Mode belongs to the driver, not the vehicle. If a driver switches to a different vehicle, their Privacy Mode status moves with them. Equally, if another driver takes over the same vehicle, they do not inherit the previous driver's Privacy Mode - they start with their own settings.
Once enabled, Privacy Mode stays active until the driver turns it off. It does not time out automatically.
What fleet operators can see
Private trips are still visible in VideMatics, so your trip records remain complete and auditable. However, the following information is hidden for any trip marked as private:
Start and end locations
Route (map trail)
Events and associated footage
Other trip data - such as duration and the fact that a trip occurred - remains visible. On the playback timeline, private durations are shown in purple so operators can clearly see when Privacy Mode was active.
A note on reports
Reports can be generated for both private and business trips. However, event data — including event location coordinates — is still present in downloaded reports regardless of trip privacy status. For this reason, access to report downloads is typically restricted to authorised users only.
If your organisation uses Privacy Mode, we recommend reviewing who in your team has report download permissions.
Managing private trips
Users with access to a vehicle in VideMatics can mark trips as private, or reverse a private marking if needed (for example, if a trip was incorrectly categorised). This ensures operators retain oversight and the ability to correct records where necessary.

Marking a trip as private
First, find the trip you want to mark. You can locate trips in several ways:
Via Fleet > Drivers — browse trips by driver
Via the Leaderboard — navigate to a driver and select a trip from there
Once you have found the trip, click Mark as private trip.
To reverse this, click Trip marked as private on the same trip to switch it back to business.
Exporting a trip report
Report download access is required for this.
Go to Reports
Select the fleet or sub-fleet (if applicable)
Choose the reporting period
Find Trip Reports
Filter by vehicle and/or driver if required
Export as XLS or PDF depending on your requirement
The XLS report includes the following fields (fields may vary by configuration):
